Introduction

Course Description: This interactive course equips 6th graders with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Through engaging activities, games, and real-world examples, students will learn essential cybersecurity concepts like protecting passwords, identifying scams, and practicing good online citizenship.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the importance of cybersecurity and online safety.
  • Identify and avoid common online threats like phishing, malware, and cyberbullying.
  • Create strong and secure passwords.
  • Practice responsible online behavior, including sharing information wisely and respecting others’ privacy.
  • Use digital tools and platforms safely and ethically.

Course Format:

Each module will focus on a key cybersecurity concept, delivered through a variety of engaging formats:

  • Interactive activities: Students will participate in hands-on exercises, simulations, and role-playing scenarios to solidify their understanding and develop critical thinking skills.
  • Games and puzzles: Educational games will gamify learning, making it fun and engaging while reinforcing key concepts.

  • Protecting personal information online
  • Social media safety and privacy settings
  • Activity: Spot the Scam! – Analyze real-world phishing attempts. Module 4: Be a Responsible Digital Citizen
  • Cyberbullying and online harassment
  • Respecting others’ privacy online
  • Netiquette: Proper online behavior
  • Activity: Create a digital citizenship pledge. Module 5: Downloading with Caution
  • Understanding malware and its risks
  • Safe practices for downloading files and apps
  • Antivirus software and online security tools
